Waxcarving

What is wax carving? Wax carving is a technique where artisans sculpt and shape wax to create detailed designs for jewellery. It allows artists to experiment and perfect their designs before casting them in metal.

What is the additional casting cost?

If you decide to do a wax carving workshop you will likely not be surprised that the material we are using to design jewellery is indeed wax. So how does this become metal you may ask? Well, your wax design can be left with me after the course, where I am able to ‘cast’ your design into silver by pouring molten silver into a cast, which burns away the wax and replaces it with the silver, which then cools and becomes an exact replica of what you carved in wax.

When I say additional casting cost, it refers to the cost of silver ‘grain’ when casting your designs. As all your designs are unique and therefore different sizes, it is impossible to determine how much silver is needed for your design until they are finished.

So the ‘additional cost’ is calculated at the workshop when you finish. And it is only an ‘additional cost’ as you are not obliged to pay for it to be cast as the cost of the workshop itself is already paid for. It is only if you wish me to change your design from wax > silver.
